Through her label, Varela LaMar, Nixia has established a line of clothing that has been enthusiastically received in Panama City’s exclusive boutiques.  Her work is exhibited at select events where designers collaborate to promote Panama as an emerging influence in the fashion world.  She works by appointment for a private clientele of women who seek unique, elegant expression in their apparel.  However, the passion and talent that place her among top Latin American designers has origins in simple instinct and creativity.

Nixia studied fashion industry trends, sketching and outlining her own concepts, long before embarking on her professional career. Nixia´s design impulses were evident in childhood.  As a schoolgirl, she modified her traditional Panamanian school uniform by sewing pockets into her kilts to carry lunch money.  This small design innovation hinted at the same spirit Nixia has carried into her professional work today.  While her basic orientation is in the classic and traditional, her sense of originality gives her the freedom to move beyond the repetitive norms.  This combination makes a Varela LaMar design one that acknowledges the current, yet remains timeless.

Nixia’s first substantial undertaking was the design of wedding dresses—including her own.  Her success in this endeavor and her passion for artistic expression inspired her to pursue formal study of Fashion Design at Ganexa, in Panama City, Panama.  From the beginning, Nixia’s goal was to merge her creativity with a technical mastery that would distinguish her creations.  Nixia’s unique pieces satisfy the aesthetic desires of clients and her attention to detail satisfies the most stringent competition judges.

For her diligence and focus on minutiae, Nixia has been featured repeatedly in print publications and interviewed on national television.   Nixia is a standard for Panama’s fashionably-attired women and a designer of choice for Panama’s representatives in international competitions.

For The First Time

STYLE YOU! Song Of The Week

For The First Time has been playing on repeat in my head and mind throughout the day and when I first wake every morning for the past week and I’m still not sure why, but it has definitely had a grip on me. My, its something to be said when a song or anything for that matter, grips you. It’s accomplished its goal.  You see, everyday at work, WWFS Fresh 102.7 New York plays in the background. If you know anything about Fresh 102.7, its a radio station that plays all the hits or everything Fresh! While listing to the morning show with Jim & Kim and then Karen Carson, among other countless hits, The Scripts – For The First Time has been the song that has not only found its way into my mind, but also into my fibers, just can’t seem to get it out of me. That’s when I began playing and listening to this song on purpose. I needed to know what this song was saying. After listening, I consented that this song has obvious emotional value and that it has relevance, especially for me. My favorite line in this song is, ……all these times are hard and they’re making us crazy, don’t give up on me baby. It hits home.

I give this song two thumps up and its worthy to be added to STYLE YOU!’s playlist and I think you’d agree.

Men's Fragrance Bleu De Chanel

STYLE YOU! Fragrance Of The Day!

Today, before leaving work, Saks Fifth Avenue, I decided to test some new fragrances.  While walking around the skin care department I noticed a gentlemen that I had met a few weeks prior in the employee cafeteria. I got his attention and we began to chat a little and then he went over the the Chanel kiosk. I asked, “you work here?” He replied, “yes!” I said, “wow, I didn’t even know that.” Anyway, I asked him about sampling some new fragrances and thats when he pointed out Blue De Chanel. The young lady was getting ready to spray a card, but I suggested she spray it on my arm to see how it “reacted” to my body chemistry! You see, the type fragrances that you will typically find me wearing are those that are sweet and fruity. That’s just how I like it, sweet and fruity, but this fragrance didn’t exactly give me that, but I found it to be unexpectedly pleasant, therefore being good enough for me to “write home about it!” I like this fragrance and I’m adding it to my collection of picks.

Bleu De Chanel is a new, woody aromatic fragrance for the man who defies convention, and resists the ordinary every day, finding satisfaction in the unexpected. His fragrance, a provocative blend of citrus and woods, liberates the senses — fresh, clean, profoundly sensual — a signature statement of determination and desire. Be unexpected.

This is definitely an evening fragrance and can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue and online at Chanel.com

On July 1st, 2010 Starbucks began offering free WIFI to its customers!

Of course, before now, Starbucks along with At&t has been offering WiFi to its customers for $3.99 per 2 hours. If you only used this every now and then, it was ok. But if you were a person like me, who’s favorite pass/hang time was Starbucks, then paying $3.99 every 2 hours wasn’t cutting it. The best thing was to purchase and register a Starbucks card. The minimum amount to purchase and put on the card is $5. This is great because with this, it allowed you unlimited WiFi access and I mean unlimited. Even if you only had a dollar left on that card, you had unlimited WiFi access.

Another thing is you didn’t have to worry about punching in that long card number every single time either. Once you have registered the card, from then on out, you just sign in your logon credentials to the Starbucks sign on page and you’re set to go.

I’m just telling all of my little secrets, but also too, if you have an iPod touch, it is automatically linked to your account. I don’t know how and I really don’t care, I’m just telling you my personal experience. Everytime I walk into Starbucks my iPod touch picks up the WiFi and I don’t have to log in or anything. I believe this was only because I had a registered Starbucks card.

Now all of this was pre July 1st, 2010, before Starbucks began offering free WiFi to its customers.

What is the difference you may ask? Well for the Starbucks card holders, there really is no difference. The only real difference is for Starbucks customers who doesnt’ have a registered Starbucks card. What this will do is give the customer their first 2 hours of WiFi for free! Beyond the first 2 hours the customer is encouraged to purchase and register a Starbucks card for continued use. I can dig this! Can you dig it?

So now you know all about the free WiFi offered by Starbucks.

Starbucks

Now as I mentioned before, my favorite pass/hang time is Starbucks. Yes, yes, yes! At any give time you can catch me tweeting and facebooking about my being at Starbucks. Over the course of time I have developed some favorites at Starbucks. I have a lot of likes at Starbucks, but I have listed my #1 favorites.

The Starbucks Iced Lemon Loaf, it is especially good when it is chilled. I have even had it frozen! OMG! Amazingly good!!!!
Iced Lemon Loaf

The Starbucks Chocolate Chip Cookie, it is every bit worth of $1.95. Its big, full of chocolate chip chunchs, and tasty!
Chocolate Chip Cookie

The Starbucks Iced Caramel Macchiato! Now, I have a special recipe and I will share it with you. My Iced Caramel Macchiato is made with its normal ingredients, but I prefer soy milk, for those who may be lactose intolerant. The kicker to my special macchiato is the double shots of white chocolate/mocha! It’s so lovely! I had a love for Sugar Bear, then this mix will allow you to relive those glory days! Speaking of, what did ever happen to Sugar Bear? If you know anything Sugar Bear, holla back at me! LOL

Iced Caramel Macchiato

Every Starbucks I go into I like. You want to know why? Its simple, its STARBUCKS! But I only have one #1 favorite Starbucks and if you’ve ever seen any of my tweets or my Facebook, then you will clearly see that my favorite Starbucks location is West 41st Street & Broadway, NYC – Times Square.

Again, at any given time or day, you could catch me here at this location. In fact, I’m here right now, writing this blog!

MY Starbucks

To relive myself of the hustle and bustle of my fast past New York City life, this is where I go. To create your on pass/hang time, go to your nearest Starbucks and began making lastly memories now. And enjoy the free WiFi while you’re at it! #LetsGo!!!

Four Ways To Streamline Your Suit

1. Unless you drive a limo or run a record label, save the black suit for evening. Navy is subdued enough for the office without being too formal.

2. A clean, close-cut look calls for a clean, close-cut shave.

3. White collar doesn’t have to be taken literally. Try light colors like lavender and pale blue.

4. Round-toe, not square. End of story.
